Who is Claudia Quigg?

Claudia Quigg is founder and Executive Director of Baby TALK, and has blazed the trail for professionals dedicated to early childhood development. She began this program in Decatur, Illinois in 1986 and it has grown to be replicated in 31 states and Canada through training and support. The Baby TALK model provides a way for a community to wrap its arms around the entire population of childrearing young families, creatively bridging a community’s resources for the greatest access and support.

Baby TALK meets every family at the hospital following the birth of their babies, giving parents support around parenting challenges and promoting reading, conversation, developmentally appropriate play and music for children. Families receive follow-up support through their child’s early years at various collaborative program locations throughout the community. For example, Baby TALK families enjoy more than 7000 contacts at the 20 program sites in Decatur each month.

Claudia received her B.A. at Millikin University in 1975 and her M.Ed. from the University of Illinois is 1977. She is an adjunct assistant professor at Millikin University and a consultant to the Touchpoints Project of Harvard’s Children’s Hospital through her work with noted pediatrician Dr. T. Berry Brazelton. Claudia is a frequent speaker at national meetings and a facilitator for communities working to improve services and support for young families. She has published a number of works for parents and for professionals. Her commitment to parent-child relationships, critical early development, and family literacy has enabled her to be a proponent for these related causes on a national level.

Claudia’s warmth, energy and vision have promoted the growth of parents throughout the United States.
